[You know how a guilty person will suddenly get super helpful to make up for it?

Well, this is pretty much Kaido today. In the last two hours he's done his laundry even though it wasn't his turn (his clothes were really muddy), done the dishes, and decided to try tinkering with the door to his room, that he'd always been too lazy to take care of even though it squeaked.

It's partly hiding something, and partly him needing to just keep busy to avoid thinking about things.

You'll find him putting the door back on its hinges, some oil swipes on his face]

They got to the ruins all right. I found the remains of a camp, some of their stuff--I gave Atsuro their journals. I thought... even if there was nothing useful in them, he'd want to have them.

[He pauses, taking a couple of slow breaths to keep his voice calm]

I didn't find... any bodies or anything. It was pretty deep, so if they'd been attacked there--or stuck--there'd have been something.

I think they left in a hurry. Or couldn't go back to camp--something along those lines. Atsuro said they mentioned something about pokemon with weird moves... so maybe they found a hint and followed it... [sigh] That's the best I have. It doesn't... It doesn't give us any definitive answers... but there's a chance they're still alive somewhere.

[maright]

I see... well, at least there's something to go off of now. Hopefully we'll be able to find out more if we keep looking... [As calm as she tried to be, there's an edge of frustration to her voice. Atsuro's already been through enough, he deserved something more conclusive than this.]

How did Atsuro take hearing all this? Is he alright?

[kaidont]

[nod] Yeah, he's fine now.

[sigh] ... I only realised when I was talking to him that more hope without any real answers might just make things worse... but he seems okay.

[There's... something like pained fondness that flashes on his face, before he looks up with a more determined expression]

I'm gonna keep looking. If they expand the band reach like they said, we can check further away. And now we know there's people out there... well we might have a lead on where they are.

Keeping it from him likely wouldn't have done any good either. You made the right choice, I think. [Though she makes a mental note to try and talk to Atsuro about this soon. She doesn't doubt Kaido's word, but if there was something she could do to help, she wanted to at least ask.]

Of course, we'll all keep looking. [Team Evolution might be dangerous, but if Atsuro's parents were with them... well, at least something good might come out of having run into them.] But I trust you'll let me know before running off on your own again somewhere.
